Creepy Halloween Crossword
Hello all!

I just joined the community and love crosswords as well. In the spirit of the season, here's a nifty Halloween crossword puzzle, done in flash.

A themed crossword I wrote recently.

I'd forgotten I was in this community, or I'd have posted sooner.

Edit: It's a 26kb .pdf. Other formats available on request.

okay, someone has to try :)
i absolutely love cryptic crosswords, and it's a shame that this community isn't more active!

so what i'm going to do is post some clues every week or so to see if that helps...

this is ten minutes of work, so i don't care if you think they suck (let me know) :)

good luck! ;)

1. a number of endless hours commence loudly (4)
2. a sprite dances around the finger of a plant (4)
3. a love interest found after the first cuttings of herbs (5)

Wired "Found" future crossword
from the journal of everdred

wired_crossword The "Found" item in the August issue of Wired is a crossword puzzle from a 2019 issue of the NY Times - with mostly geeky type clues.

If you're familiar with Wired, you already know that this Found thing is a monthly thing featuring hypothetical future items and is usually pretty thought-provoking. This one takes it to a new level of thought-provoking-ness. :)

While glancing over it, I came up with a few answers off the top of my head, but I figured it might be more fun to get some of you in on it. The magazine points to this page, which notes that the puzzle will be available on wired.com, but not for another couple days.

So I went ahead and scanned it and posted it on Flickr. Anyone care to solve it together, as comments on this entry (or as comments on Flickr, I don't really care which)?

C'mon, it'll be fun, etc.! A meta... something-or-other!

The image to the right is linked to the photo page on Flickr... for your convenience, here are a couple of direct links to larger sizes. (805x1024, 217k, 1510x1920, 380k)

Something to finish off the year...
Just a clue that I came across recently and quite liked. In fact it was Aelred in the Independent on the 28th, for those of you who have an anal interest in the details of things. Wait, this is a journal thingy about cryptic crosswords, that must be everyone. Okay, here it is then...

Cash in hand
A crossword. I hope the format works - it seems to on my machine. I can try and convert it to something else if not.

It's quite an old grid, to which I found the answers and tried to re-clue; however, I'm badly out of practise even at solving (that said, a friend just sent me a big pack of crosswords which I'm rationing...). It's also close to midnight so genius is not to be expected. But if it entertains you for ten minutes or so? My work here is done.

intro thing
i'm obsessed with writing cryptic crosswords... but am very much un-versed in cryptic crossword lore (had no idea what pnostlove was on about with balfour... but i think having no idea might have been the idea? hmm)

anyway i'm not that good at doing cryptic crosswords either, but i'd like to improve.

right i'm starting to bore myself so i should stop :) this could become a fun place to obsess cryptically, though

For general information purposes, there's a slight variation on Kensson's clue, which I noticed during a quick flick through Sandy Balfour's book.

! (4,3,4,1,4)

Perhaps it's the original version of it, I don't know.

And mentioning the book, it is quite good if you're rather compulsive about these things, and the title is itself a crossword clue:

Pretty Girl In Crimson Rose (8)

pnostlove suggested I come over and share some of my cruciverbalism. So me voila. I have a few puzzles of my own lying about somewhere - I'll try digging them out. I miss the Guardian crossword, because I'm living in the US, but my girlfriend cuts them out and sends them from time to time.

Araucaria is far and away my favourite, and Bunthorne probably my least - he seems to go out of his way to put obscure words in.

So, some of my favourite clues; some are mine, others are others':

General knowledge? (8, 12)
Hyperint? (3,6,2,4)
Patient with chronic illness (4,9)
Field of study (6)
Wilson Avenue (7)

Enjoy :o)

I finished today's Independent crossword, so I'm feeling quite good. After that I dug out the current Private Eye crossword, which had been left lying unattended somewhere, and added a fair bit to that. I hadn't been at the height of my powers when I started it last week, y'see. I was particularly proud of getting...

"The old leader's pecker has turned game (5)"

for which I had...

Smug self-satisfaction
I decided that I'd have to set up this community today after I finished the Private Eye crossword in about half an hour, which may or may not make me great. The only problem is that now I don't know where I'm going to get my smut from for the next two weeks...
